Just seventeen miles south of Austin on I-35, sits the small town of Buda Texas. Filled with small town charm and history, dating back to 1881 when Buda was formally established.  Rich in history, and planned well for growth, Buda combines the best of the past, present and future.

One of the most mispronounced names in all of Texas! Buda ranks up there with Waxahachie.  Sound like a local and say b-YOU-da.  The origin of the name has many theories. Some claim the name goes back to the railroad days when a couple of widows were the cooks for the hotel in town. The spanish word for widow is viuda. V sounds a lot like B in Spanish. Okay, maybe that's a stretch.

Main Street still has that old time look and feel. Many orginal buildings still remain in the downtown area, making a shopping trip feel like you've stepped back into the past.  Buda still remains a railroad town with tracks going right through Downtown.  Buda isn't all about the past though, home to a Texas sized Cabela's store and Jardine Foods.

Buda has such a great commmunity spirit.  Known for festivals such as the Buda Wiener Dog Races, fun for the whole family in April, and Budafest in Decmenber.  Boutiques, and restaurants, City Hall and the Vistors Center round out Downtown.

To learn more about this Texas charmer, the City of Buda website is chalked with information. A perfect blend of old and new, graceful architechure of historic homes are blended with modern convenience, and the perfect location near Austin.
